HELP! Things Aren’t Working in My Biz – What Do I Change First?

WhatToChange

I hear this question / cry for help quite often.

And not just for start-ups. Sometimes when you keep your head low and are too crazy busy growing your business to pay attention to changes in the market you run into a wall…

And all of a sudden things aren’t working like they used to.

What do you do? What do you change?

Here are five suggestions.

1. Assess.

Get completely honest about your situation.

You already know what’s not working. We always do. But we are often too wimpy to admit the truth when it’s really painful.

But hiding from it only makes things worse.

I keep a journal as my tool for “outing myself” – because it’s really awkward to BS myself in writing! Give it a shot.

2. Divide.

Each “big” problem has smaller parts. For example, in business there are four main sections – attraction, conversion, retention, and multiplication of clients.

Which part is not working?

Then, break that section into components. For example, “attraction” could be divided into: target market, lead magnet, marketing message, promotion channels and promotion tools. Which of those isn’t working?

3. Conquer.

When things are a mess, you may feel the urge to fix everything at once. Big mistake. It will overwhelm you.

Instead, choose one area and conquer it. Over-respond to one problem and make it go away once and for all!

For example, you could be suffering from a lack of visibility. Meaning not enough people know that your business exists and how what you do can help them.

So get really good at getting your message out. Select three promotional strategies you can do consistently and multiply your out-reach marketing efforts by a factor of 10.

4. Get Help.

Obviously working with a good business coach – like getting my 1-Day MBA (Mentoring By Adam) would be ideal. ;)

But if you’ve waited too long and are running low on cash, get help from a friend who is slightly ahead in his or her business. Consider “exchanging” VIP / coaching days.

That’s a very helpful strategy because you will each benefit twice; by being the client and then the coach.

5. Stick With It!

Sometimes it’s not about things not working, but rather “things not working YET”!

It’s not easy to keep going, even double up your efforts, when you can’t see the results you want at first.

But that’s what you often must do. “Grind it out” a bit longer.

It takes a little “crazy”, a lot of confidence in what you do, courage to persevere, and an unshakable faith that the results you want are inevitable to keep going and doing what needs to be done when others tell you to “just quit.”

That’s why successful entrepreneurs are slightly insane! LOL! And why so few people win at this game – they quit too soon because the going got too tough for them to handle.

Thanks for sharing your five extremely solid tips Adam!

And thank goodness, none of them are too complicated and
    or time consuming!LOL!

While i definitely like all five of your excellent tips, by far my three
    biggest takeaway are. #’s 2,4 & 5!

I really like your advice, with regards to number two!Because that’s how
    we process most things anyway.

Meaning, we break things down into much smaller, manageable chunks, (aka)
    goals if you will!

Great post!I’ll definitely share this one!
